This Member Agreement Addendum supplements the Clay Family Society’s Terms and Conditions and applies to all registered members.
1. Membership Role
Membership in CFS:
- Supports the Society’s mission
- Grants access to member-restricted content and activities
- Does not confer ownership or control of Society assets or publications
- Does not confer ownership or governance rights beyond what is stated in the Bylaws.
2. Scholarly Integrity
Members agree to:
- Distinguish between documented evidence, interpretation, and hypothesis
- Cite sources and distinguish between primary and secondary sources
- Respect differing conclusions grounded in good-faith research
Materials submitted to CFS may be returned so these standards are met or edited by CFS meet the standards.
3. Privacy and Sensitivity
Members acknowledge that genealogical research may involve:
- Living individuals whose Personal Identifiable Information (PII) needs protections
- Sensitive family histories that may be revealed
Members agree to act responsibly and ethically in sharing information, particularly concerning living persons.
4. No Professional Reliance
CFS membership and content do not constitute legal, medical, genetic, or professional advice. Members are responsible for independent verification and judgment.
